Cape Nouveau White 2023
The season started off challenging with a very dry winter. Rainfall was not representative for the normal Cape winter and in most areas the subsoil was not fully replenished. Winter was cold and the overall bud break was even. Spring weather conditions was favorable which led to ideal flowering. Disease pressure appeared early in the season but was caught well in advance to take action. The big rain in December helped replenish the soils and was much needed in most areas. A cool pre- season let good ripening of the grapes and harvest started a week earlier inJanuary. The early ripening cultivars both white and red looked
really good physically, as well as analytically.
