KWV Wines were the biggest winners at the National Young Wine Show Awards held on Thursday, August 16th, taking home a haul of 9 gold medals, more than any other producer. The awards, held at Org-de Rac Wine Estate in Piketberg, saw KWV compete against more than 2,000 wines from across South Africa.
They won the SA Champion White Blend with an unwooded Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon blend, made with grapes from the Darling region. This elegant wine serves to highlight Darling as a wine region that produces some of South Africa’s best Semillon and Sauvignon blanc. KWV also secured two National Class Winners, which were for the best Malbec in the unwooded class as well as the best non-Muscat blend in the unwooded class.
In addition to the national Awards, KWV was also awarded the Sarel Roussow Trophy for the best producer in the Paarl region, which was the third consecutive year KWV have been awarded this trophy.
KWV Chief Winemaker, Johann Fourie, commented;
“ The SA Young Wine Show results are a great early snapshot of what our winemaking and cellar team have achieved, and believe that the industry and consumers alike can expect great things from the 2013 vintage. Further it was pleasing to have been awarded medals and trophies across a diverse range of varieties and styles, which serves to reinforce our strengths as a quality producer in both red and white wines.”
