Machine Operator ref: MO0813

Location: Paarl

Purpose: This position will assist the winemaking team in the red wine cellar in daily winemaking activities as needed; including but not limited to tank-to-tank transfers, additions, racking, maintain general cellar hygiene and administrative duties. The incumbent will be required to operate specific process/ machines according to working instructions within the Wine Cellar.

Minimum requirements:

  • Grade 12
  • Physically fit and comfortable with hands-on, manual tasks and working at heights
  • 3 – 5 years relevant experience in a Wine Cellar environment including harvest experience
  • 2 years’ experience in operating specific process / machines
  • SKOP 3 qualification
  • Ability to operate multiple machines will be advantageous
  • Valid Forklift License will be advantageous

Job summary:

  • Operate specific process / machines according to Working instructions
  • Ensure equipment and machinery is maintained according to asset care principles
  • Assist in all processing activities related to the winemaking processes
  • Ensure all processes are performed according to KWV procedure and work instruction
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks / operations at once
  • Ensure cellar hygiene/housekeeping are up to standard in-line with 5S principles
  • Ensure accurate job card completion and record keeping of transfers and addition batches
  • Ensure adherence to Health and Safety standards and procedures
  • Will be required to work overtime, night shift and over weekends when operationally required
  • Oversees all aspects of barrel management, including inspection, sanitation, maintenance, and lifecycle tracking
  • Operates barrel washing machinery according to winery hygiene standards and quality protocols.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure alignment to KWV Ops Strategic Framework
