13TH EDITION

A Journey Through Bordeaux

SOUTH AFRICAN EXPRESSIONS

Welcome to this special edition of your Wine Club, where we invite you to explore one of the world’s most influential wine
styles through a distinctly South African lens: the Bordeaux blend.

Rather than presenting a single finished wine, this edition takes a more immersive approach. Inside this box, you will find
nine bottles, each showcasing a grape variety traditionally used in a Bordeaux blend. Tasted on their own, these wines
reveal clarity and character; together, they demonstrate how South African winemakers create wines with balance,
complexity and age-worthy structure — guided by both tradition and place.

Originally developed in Bordeaux, France, this classic blend centres on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc,
often supported by Petit Verdot, Malbec or Carménère. Each variety brings a specific strength — power, elegance, perfume,
freshness or depth — and the art lies in blending these elements into something more complete and layered than any single
grape alone.

Few places outside Bordeaux are as naturally suited to these varieties as South Africa. From Stellenbosch to Paarl,
Franschhoek to the Cape South Coast, our diverse soils, abundant sunshine and cooling ocean influences allow these grapes
to thrive. Over time, we have not simply replicated a European model — we have interpreted it, creating wines of
confidence, character and unmistakable local expression.

By sharing the components with you, we invite you to taste more intentionally — to explore how each element contributes
to the whole and to deepen your appreciation for the craftsmanship behind every blend.
Cheers to the Cape — and to great blends.

Psst… Did you know?
Bordeaux became a major winemaking region thanks to its historic port, a key export hub dating back to Roman Burdigala.

THE COMPONENTS OF A BORDEAUX BLEND

CABERNET SAUVIGNON
The backbone of the blend. Expect firm tannins, dark fruit and notes of cassis, cedar and graphite.
In South Africa, this variety shows richness balanced by freshness, forming the structural core of many great wines.

MERLOT
Plush and approachable, Merlot brings softness and generosity. Ripe red and black berries, subtle spice and a rounded
mouthfeel help to soften and harmonise a blend.

CABERNET FRANC
Elegant and aromatic, with floral notes, fresh herbs and bright red fruit. It adds lift, fragrance, and finesse.

PETIT VERDOT
Dark, intense and powerful. Expect deep colour, firm tannins and flavours of black fruit, violets, and spice.
Used sparingly, it contributes depth and longevity.

MALBEC
Juicy and expressive, offering plum fruit, gentle spice and supple tannins.
It enhances richness and approachability.

CARMÉNÈRE
Distinctive and savoury, with notes of black fruit, green spice and earth.
When well ripened, it adds intrigue and complexity.
