The hotly anticipated Tim Atkin South African Special Report 2022 has just been unveiled. KWV is proud to feature on this British Master of Wine’s ‘Podium’ list – reserved for the top wines and performers from South Africa’s winelands. As testament to the inherent value and quality of KWV’s wines, the KWV Classic Cape Tawny NV was announced as the Best Value Fortified Wine of the Year with a score of 93/100. Last year KWV also featured on The Podium list when its Chief Viticulturist, Marco Ventrella, was named Viticulturist of the Year.
KWV Brandy has once again been highlighted for its premium, international status, taking for the fourth time the highest award in the final round of the renowned International Spirits Challenge (ISC). Already an established champion, KWV Brandy was again named the world’s best brandy and cognac producer. The accolade was announced in London with KWV Brandy topping the field of the world’s biggest spirits producers and brand owners.
The consistent, year-on-year supremacy of KWV wines reached stellar levels this week. Having received top honours as Decanter World Wine Awards’ Best in Show for the KWV The Mentors Cabernet Franc 2019 – one of just 50 wines worldwide out of a record 18 244 entries this year.

10 November 2021 Secures six Double Gold medals for its wines and a first-ever 100-point perfect score for brandy
Celebration fires are burning high at KWV following another incredible performance in a global wine competition, this time at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2021 (DWWA). KWV is exceptionally proud that its wines secured multiple medals from Decanter, a competition regarded as the “largest and most influential” of its kind. Notably, KWV is honoured to announce that two of its wines secured a Decanter Platinum medal, reserved for wines that scored 97 or more out of a possible 100. In total, KWV secured no less than 15 medals in the 90+ score range.
KWV Wines were the biggest winners at the National Young Wine Show Awards held on Thursday, August 16th, taking home a haul of 9 gold medals, more than any other producer. The awards, held at Org-de Rac Wine Estate in Piketberg, saw KWV compete against more than 2,000 wines from across South Africa.
KWV has been classified as a World Class Distillery at the World Class Spirits Awards 2014 in recognition of its award-winning brandies. Participating with 80 other producers and distilleries from 30 nations, with over 400 spirits ranging from coffee and cigar brandies to gin, rum and fruit spirits, KWV’s brandies showed their strength garnering multiple awards: KWV 15 (2012) received a double gold while KWV 10, KWV 15 (2013), KWV 20 and Imoya were all awarded gold ratings.
